The UF grade-point table
Grade-point values are per credit hour. GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(graded credits), excluding the non-GPA symbols below.
| Letter | Grade points | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A | 4.0 | Highest grade |
| A− | 3.67 | |
| B+ | 3.33 | |
| B | 3.0 | |
| B− | 2.67 | |
| C+ | 2.33 | |
| C | 2.0 | |
| C− | 1.67 | |
| D+ | 1.33 | |
| D | 1.0 | |
| D− | 0.67 | |
| E | 0.0 | Failure (UF uses E, not F) |
S/U carry no grade-point value and are not computed in the GPA. W and H are non-punitive and not counted. Punitive I / NG count at 0.0.
Repeated courses
UF: repeated coursework is counted in the GPA as many times as grades for that course are recorded, although credits are awarded only once. A student who earns C (2.0) or higher will not be allowed to repeat that course (exceptions by approved petition). There is no grade replacement at UF.
Worked example
Worked example. A (3 credits) + D− (3 credits) = (4.0 × 3) + (0.67 × 3) = 12.00 + 2.01 = 14.01 quality points ÷ 6 credits = 2.335 → displayed as 2.33 (truncated, not 2.34). The calculator starts with exactly these two courses.
Truncation example from the catalog. 3.248 displays as 3.24. A calculator that rounds UF GPAs is wrong.
Assumptions on this page
- All credits are GPA-bearing letter-graded credits. S/U, W, H rows are left out by the calculator; punitive I / NG count at 0.0.
- No repeats in the main table. Repeated courses use the repeat widget below: at UF every recorded grade counts.
- Display: truncation to hundredths is the catalog rule, not a display choice.
Common mistakes
- Rounding the UF GPA. UF truncates: 3.248 → 3.24. Rounding gives 3.25 — wrong.
- Using the pre-2009 table. The old table (B+ 3.5, C+ 2.5, D+ 1.5, no A−/C−/D−) still circulates. Use the current post–May-11-2009 table.
- Assuming grade replacement. UF has none. Every recorded grade counts.
- Adding an A+. There is no A+ at UF. A at 4.0 is the top.
- Calling a program scale the UF scale. UF’s catalog publishes no percent bands. UF Pharmacy’s 92.50 cutoff is that program’s scale.
