Purdue GPA Calculator

Purdue GPA Calculator

Uses Purdue University’s published grade-point table. A+ exists as a grade but carries 4.0, the same as A — no bonus. On a repeat, only the most recent attempt counts in the cumulative GPA. Unofficial estimate — not affiliated with or endorsed by Purdue.

Repeated courses

Purdue: all attempts appear on the transcript, but only the most recent attempt counts in the cumulative GPA. Failing the most recent attempt removes credit even if an earlier attempt passed. A Purdue course cannot be retaken outside Purdue for grade replacement.

The Purdue grade-point table

Grade-point values are per credit hour. GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(graded credits), excluding the non-GPA symbols below.

Worked example

Worked example. A+ (3 credits) + D− (3 credits) = (4.0 × 3) + (0.7 × 3) = 12.0 + 2.1 = 14.1 quality points ÷ 6 credits = 2.35 GPA. The calculator starts with exactly these two courses. Note the A+ contributed 4.0 per credit, not 4.33 or 4.3.

Assumptions on this page

  • All credits are GPA-bearing letter-graded credits. Excluded symbols are left out by the calculator.
  • No repeats in the main table. Repeated courses use the repeat widget below, which applies Purdue’s most-recent-counts rule.
  • Display rounding: the displayed GPA is rounded to two decimals (presentation rounding).

Common mistakes

  • Giving A+ a bonus. Purdue’s Registrar says A+ and A both equal 4.0. Secondary pages implying 4.33 or 4.3 are wrong.
  • Averaging repeated attempts. Purdue counts only the most recent attempt in the cumulative GPA.
  • Retaking outside Purdue for replacement. A Purdue course cannot be retaken outside Purdue for grade replacement.
  • Applying a percent scale. Purdue’s Registrar publishes grade-point weights, not percent bands.
  • Counting W or P in the index. W, P, N, I, and the other listed marks are not included in the index.
