LSU GPA Calculator

LSU GPA Calculator

Uses Louisiana State University A&M’s published one-decimal grade-point table. A+ is 4.3 (not 4.33), and when a course is repeated only the most recent grade counts in the GPA. Unofficial estimate — not affiliated with or endorsed by LSU.

Cumulative GPA (optional)

Enter prior cumulative GPA and prior counted credits to combine them with the courses above.

Repeated courses

LSU: when a course is repeated, only the most recent grade counts in the GPA. All attempts stay on the transcript. A C− or better generally cannot be repeated for credit without permission; D+ or lower may be retaken; a third attempt needs dean approval.

The LSU grade-point table

Grade-point values are per credit hour. GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(graded credits), excluding the non-GPA symbols below.

Worked example

Worked example. A+ (3 credits) + C− (3 credits) = (4.3 × 3) + (1.7 × 3) = 12.9 + 5.1 = 18.0 quality points ÷ 6 credits = 3.00 GPA (displayed as 3.000). The calculator starts with exactly these two courses.

Assumptions on this page

  • All credits are GPA-bearing letter-graded credits. Excluded symbols (P, W, I, NC) are left out by the calculator.
  • No repeats in the main table. Repeated courses use the repeat widget below, which applies LSU’s most-recent-counts rule.
  • Display: LSU GPAs are specified to three decimals with rounding (3.95550 → 3.956).

Common mistakes

  • Writing 4.33 for LSU A+. LSU’s catalog says 4.3. The one-decimal scale is the whole point of this page.
  • Using the superseded repeat text. Older LSU text said all instances count in the GPA. The current catalog says only the most recent grade counts.
  • Mixing campuses. This page is LSU A&M (Baton Rouge) only. Other LSU System campuses publish different scales.
  • Applying a percent scale. LSU’s catalog publishes letter-to-quality-point values only — no percent bands.
  • Truncating the GPA. LSU rounds to three decimals; it does not truncate like UF.

LSU GPA Calculator FAQ

What is an A+ worth at LSU?

4.3 quality points per credit. LSU uses a one-decimal scale, so A+ is 4.3 — not 4.33.

How are repeats handled at LSU?

Only the most recent grade counts in the GPA. All attempts stay on the transcript. Older LSU text saying all instances count is superseded.

Does LSU round or truncate GPA?

LSU rounds. GPAs are specified to four significant figures (three decimals), rounding from a five-significant-figure average: 3.95550 becomes 3.956.

Does this cover all LSU campuses?

No — LSU A&M (Baton Rouge) only. Other LSU System campuses publish different scales (for example, LSU Eunice uses A 90–100 = 4 with no plus/minus).

What grades do not count in the LSU GPA?

P, W, I, and NC are not used in computing the official GPA and carry no quality points.

Is this calculator affiliated with LSU?

No. It is an unofficial estimate built from LSU’s published catalog table. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Louisiana State University.
