ASU GPA Calculator

ASU GPA Calculator

Uses Arizona State University’s published grade-point table. A+ carries 4.33 per course, the cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00, and there is no C−, D+, or D− on the ASU scale. Unofficial estimate — not affiliated with or endorsed by ASU.

Cumulative GPA (optional)

Enter prior cumulative GPA and prior counted credits to combine them with the courses above.

Repeated courses

ASU: a D or E (including EN, EU, XE) may be repeated once at ASU, and the original D/E is deleted from the GPA. Courses with C or higher generally may not be repeated for credit.

Deletion requires the repeat to be at ASU.

The ASU grade-point table

Grade-point values are per credit hour. GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(graded credits), excluding the non-GPA symbols below.

LetterGrade pointsNotes
A+4.33Exists; highest per-course value
A4.00Excellent
A−3.67
B+3.33
B3.00Good
B−2.67
C+2.33
C2.00Average / Passing
D1.00Passing / No Graduate Credit
E0.00Failure (ASU uses E, not F)

I, NR, P, W, X, Y, Z carry no grade-point value. EN, EU, XE count as 0.00, like E.

Repeated courses

ASU: a D or E (including EN, EU, XE) may be repeated once at ASU, and the original D/E is deleted from the GPA. Courses with C or higher generally may not be repeated for credit.

Worked example

Worked example. A+ (3 credits) + B− (3 credits) = (4.33 × 3) + (2.67 × 3) = 12.99 + 8.01 = 21.00 quality points ÷ 6 credits = 3.50 GPA. The calculator starts with exactly these two courses.

Cap example. Three A+ courses at 3 credits each = (4.33 × 9) ÷ 9 = 4.33 raw → reported cumulative GPA capped at 4.00. The cap applies to the cumulative GPA: enter prior cumulative GPA and credits below to see it bind. A semester-only result is not capped.

Assumptions on this page

  • All credits are GPA-bearing letter-graded credits. Excluded symbols (I, NR, P, W, X, Y, Z) are left out by the calculator; pick them in the grade dropdown and the row is not counted.
  • No repeats in the main table. Repeated courses use the repeat widget below, which applies ASU’s deletion rule.
  • Display rounding: ASU GPAs are rounded to the nearest 100th.

Common mistakes

  • Using a generic plus/minus ladder. ASU has no C−, D+, or D−. A generic ladder is wrong for ASU.
  • Writing 4.33 as the cumulative GPA. Per-course A+ is 4.33; the cumulative GPA is capped at 4.00.
  • Assuming a 12-credit repeat cap. That figure is unverified and is not used on this page.
  • Applying a percent scale. ASU publishes grade values, not percent bands. Percent cutoffs live at syllabus level.
  • Deleting a C. ASU generally does not allow repeating a course with C or higher for credit.

ASU GPA Calculator FAQ

What is an A+ worth at ASU?

4.33 grade points per credit for the course. The cumulative GPA is still capped at 4.00, so a transcript never shows above 4.00.

Does ASU have C−, D+, or D−?

No. The ASU scale jumps C → D → E. A generic ladder that includes C−, D+, or D− is wrong for ASU.

How are repeats handled at ASU?

A D or E (including EN, EU, XE) may be repeated once at ASU, and the original D/E is deleted from the GPA. The repeat must be at ASU. Courses with C or higher generally may not be repeated for credit.

Does ASU round or truncate GPA?

ASU rounds GPAs to the nearest 100th. It does not truncate.

What grades do not count in the ASU GPA?

I, NR, P, W, X, Y, Z carry no grade-point value. EN, EU, and XE count as 0.00, like E.

Is this calculator affiliated with ASU?

No. It is an unofficial estimate built from ASU’s published table. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Arizona State University.
