Why Schoology doesn't show your GPA
No Schoology documentation reviewed shows a native GPA display or GPA calculation. GPA is computed by the school's SIS (for example PowerSchool) or by third-party tools — not by Schoology itself as far as the sources show. Claims of a “GPA display setting” in Schoology are unverified; no documentation reviewed confirms such a setting. That is why students look it up elsewhere.
The methods
- Simple — average of grade points (A=4, B=3, …), no credit weighting.
- Simple Percent — average of percentages, no credit weighting.
- Weighted — credit-weighted grade points, plus course bonuses for Honors/AP/IB.
- Weighted Percent — credit-weighted percentages.
Schoology does not define which method applies — your school does. Pick it above.
Scales and bonuses are school-set
Schools create their own scales and bonus tables. One school's published table gives A+ 4.5 and A− 3.75 — another school's may differ entirely. The +0.5 honors / +1.0 AP defaults above are a common example, not Schoology's rule. Enter your school's values.
Common mistakes
- Multiplying weights by grades and calling it GPA. That is a weighted course percentage, not a grade-point average. One site's “0.36 → GPA 3.6” example makes exactly this error.
- Assuming one bonus table. Honors/AP bonuses are school-set.
- Mixing methods. Simple (3.50) and Weighted (4.00) differ on the same grades.
- Ignoring credits. Weighted methods weight by credit hours; Simple methods don't.
- Expecting Schoology to show it. Check your SIS, transcript, or school — or compute it here.
