How Extra Credit Changes Your Grade
Extra credit is not handled identically in every gradebook. The calculation depends on whether the points are added to an assignment, category, or course total.
Why extra credit can be confusing
One instructor may add extra points to a category score, while another may add points directly to the numerator without increasing points possible. Those methods produce different results.

Best practice
Write down the exact extra-credit rule first: what is receiving the points, what is the maximum possible score, and which category weight is affected. Then use a matching calculation method.
